Dr. Stephanie Bethea has performed and taught flute and piano with such backdrops as Kenya, Jordan, Lebanon, Indonesia, British Columbia and Washington. Recently she earned a doctorate in flute performance at the University of Washington, holds a master’s degree in flute and conducting from Southern Seminary, and graduated with honors in music composition from Smith College.
Stephanie prefers playing with groups, both as principal flute of Skagit Symphony and as accompanist. As a collaborative pianist, she has accompanied choirs for many years including Cantabile Chamber Singers, Quiet Service concert series, and Smith College Glee Club and Chamber Singers (Europe tour). She has been worship director and pianist at local churches since returning from Indonesia in 1993.
Stephanie often adjudicates at Solo and Ensemble festivals throughout Washington State. From 2001 to 2020, she taught music theory, class piano and flute at Skagit Valley College. She also maintains a flute and piano studio in her home.
