Heralding Christmas 2021
Home is where the Heart is
Sunday - December 12, 2021 - 3:00 PM
Our singers so looked forward to sharing the special feeling of singing together for our family and friends, that reverberation of sound and spirit in bodies and hearts that only comes when we’re all in the same room! We returned to favorite pieces we’ve loved in recent years, songs that lifted us up during the pandemic, and familiar tunes sharing warm and joyful messages of the season.
The Skagit Valley Chorale presented its “Heralding Christmas 2021” concert, "Home is where the Heart is", via a free livestream feed from Salem Lutheran Church in Mount Vernon, Washington to our families, friends, fellow musicians, and supporters. There was no charge for the concert, which we offered for the enjoyment of our communities local and worldwide.

With guest accompanist Pete Garbes and violinist David Benson
We are grateful to Stephanie Tennill and VocalEase for the generous donation of 70 singer's masks

Our Previous Season
We want to express our sincere thanks for the nearly 800 viewers who tuned in for our virtual Christmas concert. The concert allowed Chorale members to share their love of music through song and the support we've received fills our hearts with gratitude.
Celebrating in Song 2021
Even though we did not perform our traditional Celebrating in Song concert in the spring, we still sang on Zoom, each at our own desk or comfy chair at home. We saw each other in small boxes, and we took some time to say hello and exchange greetings and news. It is nothing like singing together, hearing one another’s breathing and entrances and chords. But it is making music even when we can’t hear each other. It is learning more about rhythm and improving our vocal tone. It is following our director as he shares music he’s recorded for us. It is new music: That Lonesome Road by James Taylor and Kisses Sweeter Than Wine by The Weavers, adapted from Lead Belly. It is enjoying pieces we’ve sung before: Walden and Happy Together. It is preparing to sing Fauré’s Requiem by listening to it in a deeper, more appreciative and analytic way.
YouTube presentations of That Lonesome Road and Walden are available for viewing.
